Post Career

The tingle for entrepreneurship emerged in every aspect of her adult career. After receiving a bachelors of fine arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, Taylor knew she wanted to create something that was truly her own.  BFA at hand and a creative spark to pair, Taylor began her first venture. A photography business that she began with tools from college and a business mindset. Unfortunately creative passions often require additional resources so she found a 9 to 5 and then six years flashed before her eyes. 

The initial interest arose surprisingly six years prior at an internship where the studio provided a makeup artist, hairstylist, stylist, and photographer. The idea of different entities coming together to seek a cohesive result is a form of art. So in 2016 she established the Five Sense Gifting Company. This company specialized in sourcing curated gifts based on a recipients five senses. At first customers would receive a form which would gather further information and formulate a projected budget. After profit loss from outsourcing the company re-branded soon after.  

The Spark

Now, instead of sourcing pre-made curated goods Taylor began making her own body butter and balms. Sourcing natural ingredients and high quality essential oils she began canning each product by hand. Obtaining a vendors license to sell her whipped body butters at local vendor shows, she received modest returns but proved to herself that she was capable.. With her attention to detail and craftsmanship it was certain Five Sense Gifting would flourish.  

Assume nothing. Vending was a wonderful pastime that fed the bug for Taylor to create and grow. A year into the business at a vending event a customer tested a sample. She mentioned that she experienced a tingle sensation in her skin. After confirming she had no allergies she did mention she had eczema. Sparking that research bug she found that mint and eucalyptus can cause a stinging sensation in certain skin types: eczema being one of them. This encounter is the reason why she is in the esthetics field today and five months later she enrolled at Cortiva Institute and was licensed a year later. 

In Pursuit

It was the Summer of 2019 and the thirst to learn encompassed Taylor's time once again.  Graduating with outstanding attendance and marks from Cortiva Institute in February of 2020. It was the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic and everything was paused. In October of 2020 the Maryland state board of cosmetologists certified that Taylor Stevenson is an authorized Limited Esthetician. 

Her ability to execute each move strategically carved the pathway to obtaining employment within sectors she sees value in; such as receptionist at a local spa, department manager. Feeling as if every situation is a opportunity to learn. However, 15 years in one sector she began to feel tramped and inspired for more.

Complacency set into her routine and it was time for her to take a risk!  In 2022 Taylor opened Obsidian Radiance Oasis, LLC. Converting a space in her basement into a refreshing treatment space. For two years she educated herself on establishing a foundation for a business to flourish. She is an active member with the Association of Skincare Professionals and is fully insured. She is also an ally to those undergoing varies anti-cancer treatments; in 2023 Taylor successfully completed the Life-Changing Esthetics Oncology Essential Course and  hopes to partner with a wellness house for those undergoing varies treatments and their loved ones. 

The Future

Taylor believes in a compassionate and well rounded service. Using holistic tools that are appropriate to each concern and will enhance the treatment. Deep consideration of each product used, you can rest assured high quality products will be used. She looks to inquire partnerships with local adult living facilities, non-profits, and other entities that look to provide compassionate care.
